DATASET

The content on this page includes key elements of the Family Synthesis Project (FaSP) data set.

The FaSP PRISMA Chart provides an overview of stages and outcomes of our literature search. For those unfamiliar with this kind of research, PRISMA stands for Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. PRISMA is a standardized format recommended for use in all synthesis research.

The Reports in the Sample pages include citations for all the reports in the FaSP data set. We have provided two versions of the citation list. The first is organized by the chronic condition being studied. Most reports in the sample were studies of children with a specific condition (e.g., cancer, diabetes), but some included multiple conditions. If you are interested in a particular condition or group of conditions, these lists will be of interest. On the other hand, if you are interested in a certain type of report (e.g. qualitative, randomized clinical trial), the lists organized by study design will be more useful.

The Data Extraction pages include the templates we used to extract information from the research reports about characteristics of the study (e.g., sample size, measures) and results that were relevant to the FaSP study. We developed two data extraction templates, one for use with randomized clinical trials and one for use with all other reports in the sample.

Under Data Analysis, we have included a list of the coding categories we applied to the research results from each study. The list includes our definition for each category and guidelines for coding results statements. We used Atlas.ti, a software program that supports qualitative data analysis, to code results statements and access coded data.

For more detailed information on methods used in the FaSP study see the Dissemination section of this website.
